Zaptec Sense optimises energy use for EV charging, making charging smarter and more efficient. This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up Zaptec Sense with RS485 Modbus and Ethernet connectivity.

- Zaptec Sense unit
- Custom Micro USB cable
- Adhesive magnet sheet
- Double-sided tape
You will also need:
- 5V DC DIN rail power supply (min. output current: 1A)
- DIN rail digital energy meter
- Optional: Unshielded CAT5e/CAT6 Ethernet cable.
1. Physical installation
Follow these steps to install Zaptec Sense:
- Mount the power supply to the DIN rail.
- Use the custom Micro USB cable to connect Zaptec Sense to the modules.
- White, green, and brown (GND): Connect to the e-meter.
- Red [V+] and black [V-]: Connect to the power supply.
- Configure the Modbus baud rate to 9.6 kbps.

Ensure all external equipment is installed following the manufacturer's instructions.
2. Configure Zaptec Sense in the Zaptec app
Once installed, configure Zaptec Sense in the Zaptec app:
- Open the Zaptec app and log in.

Go to Dashboard > Tap the three dots in the corner > Install Product.
- Scan the QR code on the back of the device or manual.

Follow the instructions to set the main fuse, confirm the meter connection, and connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Updating network settings
You can update network settings after installation using the Zaptec app.
If you have the PIN or you're not the owner:
- Hold your phone close to Zaptec Sense.
- In the app > tap
icon > Configure products.
- Select the Zaptec Sense (APGXXXX or APHXXXX) and enter the PIN.
- Update network settings.
If you're the owner:
- Hold your phone near the Zaptec Sense.
- In the app > Installations > your installation > Charging Mode > Configure > Advanced settings.
- Update network settings.
If Zaptec Sense loses connection, it automatically reduces charging current to the minimum power (6A) to avoid overloading your system. You can change the minimum power in the Zaptec Portal.
Light indicators
The lights on your Zaptec Sense will help you know if everything is working:
- Solid white: Device is configured and active.
- Solid orange: Device has received an IP but has no connection to the cloud.
- Two orange blinks: No IP has been received via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
- Orange, white, orange, white: No M-bus data received. Check if the HAN port is activated with your utility company.
- Three orange blinks: Device not configured. Log in via the Zaptec app to set up Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
