Zaptec Go is the ideal home charging solution, perfect for one to three chargers. Managing access is straightforward and designed to fit your household’s unique needs. Whether you prefer an open charging station for ease or controlled access for privacy, Zaptec Go adapts to you.
To share access:
- Owner permissions are required to add or manage users.
- If authentication is needed to start charging, user permissions are required.
Changes to access settings can only be made if Zaptec is the administrator of the installation. If your installation is managed by another operator, you’ll need to use their app to adjust access.
Access settings: Open vs. Restricted
Zaptec Go gives you the freedom to decide how your charging station operates. Do you want to keep things simple or have a bit more control?
- Open access: Anyone can plug in and charge without needing an app or RFID tag. Great for homes where you don’t need extra controls.
- Restricted: Prefer to keep your charger private? Set up authentication so only approved users can charge. Invite people via the Zaptec app or Portal, and they can start charging with the Zaptec app or an RFID tag.
You can switch these settings on and off whenever you need to.
Multiple user support
Even if you keep access open, you can still add family, friends, or anyone else as members of your installation.
For example:
- Members can start and stop charging effortlessly.
- Members can check the status of the charger, monitor usage, and stay in the loop.
- Keep everyone in the loop by giving them access to monitor charging.
How to add users
Adding members to your Zaptec Go setup is quick and easy. Here’s how:
- Open the Dashboard in the Zaptec app and tap the Key icon under the charger.
- Tap + Give access and enter the user's email to invite them.
- Choose the role you want to assign (e.g., User or Owner).
- Once a member is added they will see the charging station in their own app. And if you want to change the assigned roles you can do so by tapping the three-dot icon next to the member's name.
- If you also want to restrict access to charging, make sure the toggle switch is turned on. When enabled the charging station will show Access - Restricted and authentication will be required to charge.
You can also give access to the charger/installation from the Installation dashboard. All you have to do is tap your installation and then tap Access. From there, just follow the easy steps we've outlined above and you'll be all set!
How to restrict access
There are times when restricting access makes sense—like if your charging station is in a shared space or you want tighter control over who can use it. Enabling Restricted Access lets you require authentication through the Zaptec app or an RFID tag.
Here’s how to switch to Restricted Access in the Zaptec app:
- Open the Dashboard in the Zaptec app and tap the Key icon under your charger.
- To restrict access, make sure the toggle switch is turned on. This will set the charger to restricted mode.
- You'll now see that the key icon changed color and says "Restricted", meaning authentication is required to start charging.
- Invite users via email as explained above, to join your installation.
Using the Zaptec Portal to manage access
If you prefer using the Zaptec Portal, follow these steps:
- Go to Installations, and click on your installation.
- Under Settings, click Authentication.
- Select Internal authentication and enable the authentication required button.
- Next, go to Permissions and add users by email to give them access to the charger.
- Now, under the Circuit tab, you'll see a small icon of a person on the charge point. This means authentication is required.
