Zaptec chargers deliver full power by default, but you can customize how and when you charge. Choose the mode that fits your needs.
Charging modes control how your charging station delivers power to your vehicle. They let you manage charging speed, schedule, and energy usage. Here's a quick overview of each mode:
Default Charging
Default Charging is the standard mode when you first set up your charger. It runs at 100% power unless you change it.
- Simple, plug-and-charge use - no extra settings required.
- Manually adjust the charging current if needed.
Adjusting power:
- Your circuit breaker determines the max charging current (e.g., if it’s 20A, you can adjust between 6A and 20A).
- Other factors—like your car's charging capability and cable—can also affect the actual charging speed.
- If you have questions about your installation, contact your installer.
For step-by-step instructions, check out How to change the charging current.
If you use devices like an external load balancer (not Zaptec Sense) or third-party energy manager in your home, it’s important to keep the default charging mode active to avoid disruptions. If you don’t use these devices, you can explore other charging modes for more options.
Scheduled Charging
Scheduled Charging mode lets you set specific charging times to fit your routine and save on energy costs.
- Set charging times to fit your schedule.
- Charging during off-peak hours when electricity is cheaper.
Example: If your electricity provider offers cheaper rates at night, you can schedule charging from 10 PM – 6 AM.
For setup instructions, check out Using Scheduled Charging.
Automatic Charging (Zaptec Sense)
Automatic Charging mode works with the Zaptec Sense device installed in your fuse box to monitor your home’s energy use.
- Preventing overload by balancing power usage in real-time.
- Maximizing efficiency without manual adjustments.
Switching to another charging mode will deactivate Zaptec Sense. To keep these automatic adjustments, continue using Automatic Charging mode.
Eco Mode (Available in Scandinavia & Benelux)
Eco Mode schedules charging when electricity prices are lowest to reduce costs.
- Optimizing energy costs by charging at the cheapest times.
- Maximizing sustainability with smarter energy use.
Eco Mode will be shown as default charging on your dashboard and is not recommended to use with Zaptec Sense, as they may conflict.
