What is Eichrecht?
Eichrecht is a German law that ensures the accuracy and transparency of measurements used in commercial transactions. For EV charging, Eichrecht guarantees that customers only pay for the exact amount of electricity delivered to their vehicle. For companies operating in Germany, compliance with Eichrecht is mandatory when conducting business.
To comply with Eichrecht, EV charging stations must:
-
Use certified meters:
EV chargers must be equipped with certified meters to measure the electricity delivered during a charging session. -
Provide a detailed session summary:
After charging, the EV charger creates a summary of the session, displayed on-screen, through a mobile app, or sent via email (inc. energy delivered (kWh), cost, date, and time). -
Verification for transparency:
The receipt may include a QR code or secure key that lets you securely access and verify the charging details on another website or system if you want to double-check the accuracy of the transaction. Example: S.A.F.E offers this option.
