This firmware update includes a security update for some of our oldest chargers. It adds support for TLS 1.2 for a very small subset of chargers that only supported TLS 1.0, as we will be turning off TLS 1.0 support in our cloud solution soon to strengthen the security of our whole solution.
The firmware update also brings several improvements done over the last 4 years to the oldest ZapCharger Pro chargers still in the field!

6.3.4.1 October 2025
This release only includes internal changes in the firmware, mainly related to logging and status reporting, as well as a minor change to support updated firmware on the 4G module of newly produced devices.
6.3.3.4 September 2025
This release only contains changes that are relevant on the production line for newly produced devices. This should not affect the functionality of already installed charging stations.
6.3.3.3 August 2025
This release introduces a slightly new way in how our devices communicates with our cloud solution, so that we can scale it even further. To support this change, chargers may now occasionally connect to the Azure DPS service, which uses the domain global.azure-devices-provisioning.net on TCP port 8883 to fetch updated cloud connection information.
After connecting to the DPS service, devices will move from using zapcloud.azure-devices.net to other (unspecified) subdomains on the azure-devices.net-domain (still on TCP port 8883), meaning that any firewall rules for zapcloud.azure-devices.net should be updated to *.azure-devices.net.
We are also introducing a new service to handle firmware updates, which requires the domain firmwaredeployment.zaptec.com on TCP port 443 to be available.
Please make sure these domains are unblocked in any firewalls to ensure that the devices remain online and maintains full functionality.
To summarize, Zaptec Pro requires these domains to be open in any firewalls:
- api.zaptec.com:443
- devices.zaptec.com:443
- firmwaredeployment.zaptec.com:443
- *.azure-devices.net:8883
- global.azure-devices-provisioning.net:8883
This release also includes a bugfix for a small amount of chargers that would get a persistent MID_STORAGE_ERROR warning, as well as a fix for an issue that made it impossible to connect to WiFi networks that included unicode characters in the network name.

- This firmware update ensures compliance with the new cybersecurity requirements of the RED directive.
- Most changes are only minor and internal, and won’t be noticed by most customers, except for the following:
- “Delete my data” has been added as a feature in the app to delete any privacy relevant information stored in the charging station
- The OCPP Compliance improvements which were introduced in the 5.6.0.0 release for Zaptec Pro & Pro MID are now also available for Pro M&E chargers

3.2.2.0 - 5 January 2021
In version 3 of the charging station firmware we have made some large architectural changes to make the firmware more stable in general.
Most of these changes will not be easily noticeable, but we can mention some changes that you might notice with this firmware update:
- An energy meter has been added. The value of the meter is shown in the ZAPTEC Portal, and will start counting from 0 kWh when firmware version 3 is installed.
Note that the energy meter in ZapCharger Pro and Home is not calibrated according to MID, like the ZAPTEC PRO.
The energy meter in ZAPTEC PRO starts at 0 kWh when it is produced. - Charge cards that follow the ISO 15693-standard are now also supported (Only ISO 14443 Type A-cards was supported previously)
- The charging station will indicate when it is waiting for authorization from the cloud by blinking yellow slightly faster after authenticating with a charge card, or the ZAPTEC app.
- Authentication has been improved to better avoid situations where the charging station and app is "hanging" when attempting to start charging.
- In some fault situations, the charging station will attempt to restart charging after a delay, instead of "giving up" the first time a fault occurs. (For example when the RCD trips, or the car draws too much current)
- The WiFi-network re-connection handling has been improved.
- Reporting of charging sessions to the ZAPTEC Portal has been made more robust.

2.5.0.7 - 12 February 2019
- Charging stations with firmware version lower than 2.5.0.7 will first update to this version, then automatically update to the latest available version after a short while.

- If native authentication is used, only authorized users and charging tokens will be able to charge while the charging station is offline
- If a charging station is offline, the charging indicator will turn off briefly at least once every minute to indicate that it is offline
- When a charging station is disabled in ZapCloud, the charging indicator will be turned off and no charging will be allowed until it is re-activated in the cloud (the charging station will not be re-activated until it is able to connect to ZapCloud). The charging indicator will flash red with low brightness every 30 seconds to indicate that it is disabled.
- Other minor bugfixes and improvements.
2.3.4.2 - 5 June 2018
- Some issues with preconditioning and delayed charge start in some cars has been fixed
- If internal authentication is activated on the installation, charging can now be stopped by scanning the same charging token that started the charging session.
- The icon for communication mode in ZapCloud now indicates the charging stations actual communication mode, not the configured mode
- The charging station will now detect when it loses its network connection faster. An issue where the charging station could allow the car to charge with too much current for a brief amount of time after losing its network connection has also been fixed.
- A bug where the app would not show any available Wi-Fi access points if an access point with no name was found has been fixed
- If a firmware update is started using the app, the update now start immediately as long as no car is connected
- Several improvements and stability fixes related to the communication with ZapCloud
- Stability fixes for the Wi-Fi connection.
