Start and stop charging with the Zaptec app

You can use the Zaptec app to start, pause, and stop a charging session. How you do this depends on the charger's authentication settings.

  Note:

If your charger is linked to a third-party system or payment solution, contact that provider for assistance. This guide only applies to using the Zaptec app.

How to start charging

  1. Plug your car into the charger. If access is open, charging starts automatically and no further steps are needed.
  2. If access is restricted you'll need to authenticate to start charging:
    • Hold your phone close to the charger > open the Zaptec app > find your charger and tap Authenticate (the authentication button will appear when the car is connected).
    • Alternatively, use a registered RFID key to authenticate.
  3. The charging station will start flashing blue when charging has started and switch to green (or white for Zaptec Go) when done.

  Try it:

In the Zaptec app you can monitor your session and view estimated kWh charged.

How to stop or pause charging

  1. In the Zaptec app, tap Pause charging to stop or pause.
  2. Tap Start charging to resume. If access was restricted, you might need to authenticate again.
  3. You can also unplug your car to stop charging completely.

If the charging won't start

  • Waiting for authentication: If the charging station shows a yellow light, it usually means it's waiting for authorisation. You can check if authentication is enabled on the app's Home screen. It will indicate either Open or Locked. You can authenticate using the app or a registered RFID card. Alternatively, you can disable authentication by tapping the key icon.
  • Waiting for available power: A yellow light (Zaptec Pro) or green light (Zaptec Go) may indicate that the charging station is waiting for available power in the charging system.
  • Waiting for scheduled charging: A green light on the Zaptec Go might mean that Eco Mode is activated. You can check the scheduled charging section or learn more about Eco Mode here
