How to change the Wi-Fi Password on your Zaptec 4G router (UK)

This guide applies to UK routers supplied to installers only.

Before you begin

The default Wi-Fi password is publicly available online. Change it during commissioning to secure the installation.

  1. Ensure the SIM has been activated by Zaptec Support.
  2. Insert the SIM (if not pre-installed).
  3. Wait up to 15 minutes for the router to auto-configure and enable Wi-Fi.
  4. Do not change any settings until auto-configuration is complete—settings made earlier may be overwritten.

1. Connect to the router's Wi-Fi

  1. Find the Wi-Fi network (SSID): R1520-Wi-Fi. Other models may show a slightly different SSID, e.g. R1510-WiFi, R2110-WiFi-2ghz. Use whichever matches your router label.
  2. Enter the default Wi-Fi password: w1rele55.

2. Open the router settings

  1. On your laptop, phone, or tablet, open a web browser.
  2. In the address bar, type the router’s web (IP) address (printed on the router's label).

3.  Log in

  1. Enter username: admin
  2. Enter password: RB + last 6 characters of the router’s MAC address (on the label).

Example: if the MAC ends in 4D:B1:A2 → password = RB4DB1A2

4. Change the Wi-Fi password

  1. In the left menu, click Interface → Wi-Fi.
  2. Open the Access Point tab.
  3. Locate the PSK Password field (this is the Wi-Fi password).
  4. Enter a new, secure password.
  5. Click Submit (bottom of the page).
  6. Click Save & Apply (top right).

Complete steps five and six. Clicking only Save & Apply will not save your changes.

5. Final steps

  1. Connect the charger(s) to Wi-Fi using the new password.
  2. Forget the network on your phone/laptop when finished to avoid background data use.
  3. Record the new password in your job notes/handover. You could use the Notes field on the Zaptec Portal Installation to do this.

Data usage warning

SIMs are for EV charger use only. Non-charger devices (phones, laptops) will quickly exhaust data, causing the SIM to be barred and charger connectivity to be lost.

Protect your installation by:

  • Always change the default Wi-Fi password during commissioning.
  • Remove the site Wi-Fi from your device after setup to prevent automatic reconnection.
  • Not sharing the Wi-Fi password with end users unless required for the specific solution.

Troubleshooting

  • Wi-Fi network isn’t visible: Wait the full 15 minutes after SIM activation for auto-config, or connect via Ethernet.
  • Can’t log in: Use the correct admin format RB + last 6 MAC digits (post auto-config). The MAC is on the router label.
  • Changes don’t stick: Confirm the router has completed auto-configuration; settings made earlier may be overwritten.
