Yes. Zaptec charging stations work with all electric vehicles, including the Renault Zoe. However, there are some important considerations, depending on your home's power grid.
Renault Zoe and TN grids
When charging on a TN network, there are two important limitations to be aware of:
- Minimum charging current: User reports suggest that charging may not reliably start at currents below 8A. In practice, it's best to ensure your charging setup can provide at least 8 for reliable charging with Zoe
- It has also been reported that the Renault Zoe will not start charging if the local earthing (grounding) is not very good. Reliable earthing is therefore essential for the car to initiate charging.
Renault Zoe and IT grids
The Renault Zoe can’t charge directly from an IT network. This is a limitation of the car, not the charging station. If your home is connected to an IT network, you have two options:
- Use a portable isolation transformer with a Type 2 to Schuko adapter. This lets you charge from Zaptec stations not connected to a TN network. No need to change installation settings.
- Install an isolating transformer on the circuit to your charging station(s). Using a transformer won’t increase charging speed.
Important: You can’t mix different electrical grids in the Zaptec Portal (ZapCloud). If the transformer is only in front of one charging station, create a separate installation in the portal and select TN network.
