Want to connect Zaptec with another system — like an energy platform, facility management tool, billing system, or custom dashboard? The Zaptec API gives you the flexibility to integrate external services, automate workflows, or build your own tools on top of Zaptec infrastructure.
This article gives you a high-level overview. For full technical documentation, visit the Zaptec Developer Docs.
Step 1: Create your Zaptec account
Start by creating a Zaptec account if you don't already have one. It works for both the Zaptec App and the Zaptec Portal.
Step 2: Get access to a charging station or installation
To use the API, your account needs access to at least one charging station or installation. Access is controlled by roles. If something isn't working, your role might not include the right permissions.

Step 3: Understand the guidelines
Before building an integration, make sure you've reviewed:
Step 4: Find the right IDs for the API
To interact with the API, you’ll need to reference specific IDs. One for the installation, and one for the charger. You can find both in the Zaptec Portal.
Installation ID
An installation is the top-level group in the Zaptec hierarchy, containing one or more chargers.
- Go to the Zaptec Portal.
- Open the installation Settings.
- Click details.
- Hit Copy installation ID.
Charger ID
Each ID is a unique identifier used by the API to target the right object.
- In the Zaptec Portal, go to Installation > Circuits.
- Click the charging station.
- You'll see a Copy charger ID button in its details.
